Mt 9:9-13

Matthew is a tax collector turned disciple, not by his own choosing, but by Jesus’ call. Pious Jews were suspicious of tax collectors because of their reputation for collaboration with Rome and their illicit practice of extortion. Jesus accepted them and kept company with them as he did others who sinned.

I am grateful for your boundless mercy, Jesus. I must be mindful that no one’s transformation and conversion is without hope.
