Try this: Eucharistic adoration

The Real Presence had been recognized since the days of the apostles, but Perpetual Adoration began in sixth-century Spain. Pope John Paul II called Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament “an inexhaustible source of holiness.” Try these suggestions — excerpted from OSV’s pamphlet “Eucharistic Adoration” — for private adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.

  • Offer thanksgiving.
  • Pray the Psalms or the Liturgy of the Hours.
  • Recite the “Jesus Prayer”: “Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
  • Meditate on Scripture.
  • Read about the life of a saint.
  • Pour out your heart to Jesus; listen for His response.
  • Ask for forgiveness.
  • Ask for intercession.
  • Pray the Rosary.
  • Sit quietly and contemplate with wonder and awe the presence of God.
